Poetic Interruption IV

THE RIGHT JACKET

Over and across from…

There stood a jacketed man

He smoothed it, shifted it, buttoned it

He smiled a model’s smile, – though model he was not

He waited patiently, finger and thumb, brushing his moustache

Yes predictably the watch received a glance

Then he began to pace to and fro

Best to keep moving to some degree,

Pacing – of the maternity-ward – kind

Waiting on the ‘birth-appearance’

of his faithful appointment-keeper

She came into view, he straightened up,

His jacket getting one more pull

A warm embrace ensued with girl called Sue

Arm and arm entwined – they creased the jacket

On their way to the zoo
